Terms of use

btcintel is a public index of the Bitcoin blockchain with an intelligence layer over it: chain facts, cited claims, and community notes that are never merged. These terms say who runs it, what it is not, and what you may not do with it.

in forceEffective 2026-09-24. Adopted by the operator on 2026-09-24 (decision P54 in the btcintel codex); the account terms were added on 2026-09-29 (S5.5), approved by the operator on 2026-09-30 (P61) and apply once accounts open (features.accounts); a lawyer's review is on the launch checklist. Changes are published here with their date.

1. Who we are

btcintel — the site at btcintel.io, the API at api.btcintel.io, the MCP endpoint at api.btcintel.io/mcp and the Nostr relay at relay.btcintel.io — is operated by Satsboard LLC, 1021 E Lincolnway 10076, Cheyenne, WY 82001, United States ("btcintel", "we"). Legal notices reach us at [email protected].

2. What you agree to

By reading the site, calling the API or the MCP endpoint, connecting to the relay, minting a token, holding a key or creating an account, you accept these terms. If you act for an organisation or run software (an agent) that does any of this, you accept them for it. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

3. What the service is

  • Chain — facts from our index of Bitcoin Core and observations computed by our extractors.
  • Curated · btcintel — claims we make about addresses, transactions, blocks and entities, each with its source and a citation you can verify. They are cited claims, not verdicts, and never a score.
  • Community — notes and labels other people publish on Nostr about the same subjects, indexed from our relay and from public relays. We index them; we do not endorse them.

Nothing on btcintel is financial, legal, investigative or compliance advice. A claim or a note about an address is what its source or its author says, with our record of where and when; it is not a determination by us about any person or transaction.

4. Reading: tiers, tokens, keys and accounts

Reads are open to anyone. Quotas apply per minute and per day, by tier: anonymous callers, tokens minted on first use, keys we issue, and accounts. The current numbers are on the tiers page and in the API's status; we may change them. We may revoke a key or refuse a caller that abuses the service. Tokens and ops-issued keys are credentials, not profiles: there is no password, e-mail or profile behind them, and they hold no personal data.

An account (tier t4) is optional and exists for people who want an e-mail and a password, a passkey and an organisation. It holds what the privacy page lists and nothing else, is free while the product is in its third phase, and can be closed at any time from its security page: sign-in is refused at once, thirty days of grace follow, then the account is anonymised. You keep your credentials to yourself, tell us of a compromise at once, and answer for what is done with your account, your keys and, if you administer an organisation, for the members you invite and the keys it issues. An organisation is created from a work address, and its administrators keep a second factor.

5. Curated claims

Curated claims come from named sources under the licence each source allows. We record the source, the fetch and a hash of the claim's content; versions never change once written, and a claim that is retracted or expires keeps its history. Sources can contradict each other; we show the set, we do not resolve it into a score. We do not warrant that a claim is true, current or complete. If a claim about you is wrong, see the takedown and correction process.

6. Community content

Community notes are Nostr events signed by their authors and published to relays that anyone can read. We index the ones that name a Bitcoin subject and meet our relay policy, and we show them marked as community content, not endorsed by btcintel. We do not review them before they appear. We may hide a note or refuse a pubkey under the relay policy and the takedown process; we cannot edit, forge or delete what other relays hold. Authors keep their rights and grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, index, display and redistribute their public events through the site and the API, as publishing to a public relay implies.

7. Prohibited uses

You may not use btcintel to:

  • harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, or publish content that does so;
  • publish personal data about a private individual for the purpose of identifying, locating or exposing them (doxxing);
  • publish content that is unlawful where you or we are, including content that infringes others' rights;
  • impersonate a person, an organisation or btcintel, or present community content as if btcintel had endorsed it;
  • distribute malware or links to it;
  • evade quotas, proof-of-work requirements or bans, scrape beyond the quotas of your tier, or interfere with the service, its relay or its infrastructure;
  • misrepresent a Curated claim or a citation as something it is not.

8. Enforcement

We may revoke keys and tokens, refuse a network address, hide community content, refuse a pubkey at our relay, switch the relay to read-only, and suspend or discontinue any part of the service, at any time and without notice when abuse or the law requires it. Every moderation action is recorded in our audit log with its reason.

9. Disclaimers

The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The index can lag the network; the API discloses the lag on every answer. You use the service at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Satsboard LLC and its members, officers and contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service or of any content on it, whether in contract, tort or otherwise. Our aggregate liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to one hundred US dollars (USD 100). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; where the law gives you rights that cannot be limited, these terms do not limit them.

11. Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from them or from the service is brought in the state or federal courts located in Laramie County, Wyoming, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Mandatory consumer-protection rights of the place where you live are not affected where the law says they cannot be waived.

12. Changes

We change these terms by publishing the new text here with its date. The history is public in the btcintel codex repository. Continued use after a change is acceptance of it.

13. Contact

Legal notices: [email protected]. Everything else: the feedback button on any page, or the API's feedback route. A Nostr contact will be listed when the ops team publishes a key; the brand itself signs nothing on Nostr.
